Dear friends,

Four years of SEKOIA, how much we’ve seen, how much we’ve grown. It’s been one hell of a ride, but now the end is here.

Starting with three founding members back in 2011, the SEKOIA team has grown to over twelve steady contributors. The team includes designers, DJ’s, promoters and writers, all being pure aficionado’s of deep electronic music. This group has evolved into something far more than a team and it’s easily the best thing that we’ll be taking home from this whole experience. It’s not a team anymore, we’ve become a family: the SEKOIA family.

Bonded trough our shared passion for deep electronic music, not only within our family but with all of you, our audience. People from around the world listening, watching and commenting. All your messages through the years have meant so much to us, we feel honored that so many people have enjoyed our work and that we’ve managed to connect so many music enthusiasts. If there’s one thing that has become clear to us it’s that music knows no borders whatsoever. We’ll be taking that with us for the rest of our lives.

Unfortunately, for now, it’s time to say goodbye. Our thanks go out to each and every one of you and we hope to see you out in the field!

Dear friends, farewell!

Florinsz, Ward and the rest of the SEKOIA Family.

Wed 13 Jan

Last Sunday we celebrated our 4th birthday. Four years of sharing tracks and recordings, four years of sharing stories, four years of sharing our passion for deep electronic music. Four years after which we’ve decided to put SEKOIA on hold, indefinitely.

SEKOIA has always been about high quality output, which requires a large amount of dedication from all people involved. With over 80.000 subscribers, reaching over 500.000 views every month, you could say we’re doing pretty well. But, lives have changed and other projects, jobs and interests have become bigger parts of our daily routines. Simply put: the time, focus and dedication to keep up the level we stand for is no longer there. It’s something that we truly regret but have to confess nonetheless. We’ve looked into different ways to continue but it would only lead to SEKOIA becoming a shadow of it’s former self. After sharing almost 700 tracks and podcasts, we would rather finish this project on a high note, giving it a worthy end.

We’ve experienced a lot of great moments and collected some beautiful memories throughout the years, something that is definitely worth celebrating! On Friday, February 5th we’ll celebrate for one last time with an intimate get together at a secret Amsterdam-based location. More info on that will follow soon! For people out of reach to join: we’ll have a sizeable musical present for you afterwards, a musical testament as it may.

We’ll be around for about another month, sharing music like we’ve always done and working towards a nice ending. After that, sadly, it’s done.

Thank you all for your continuous support throughout the years!

We’d like to thank all of you who’ve attended ‘SEKOIA Presents’ during the first night at Best Kept Secret Festival. We had an absolute blast and it felt really special to showcase our brand of electronic music to all of you in such a magnificent setting. Polynation, Sirens Of Saturn and Florinsz Janvier delivered a proper 2h-journey ranging from analog to digital and everything in between.

We feel the festival in all its facets (e.g. beautiful site, good food, broad selection of quality acts and the way the audience breathes music in general) really matches our vision on festival experience. Best Kept Secret is a very welcoming addition to the festival landscape in the Netherlands and we hope to be part of it again in 2016!

Today the British producer Jamie XX released his first ever solo album, “In Colour”. It has been a long wait for this, and some of the tracks on the album had already seen light earlier, but we’re thrilled to see the it in full glory now.

Unfortunately we couldn’t upload the song to our channel, but nonetheless we’d like to put a spotlight on him today. The album is filled with the sonic mind bends we know Jamie xx for: sampling, playing, stretching, bending, warping time, and is simply mind boggling. His infectious, UK bass drum inspired loops, are filled with melancholic synths that are as euphoric as they are intimate. A combination rarely found, and requires a distinct knowledge of what one is doing.

We could go on about the album for a while, but encourage you to go and check it out for yourself. We’re struggling hard to find a favorite track, and maybe that really isn’t the right question, but what do you consider the best track of the album?

Sadness

Fri 18 Jul

As you might have heard, unfortunately we’ve lost a lot of fellow Dutchmen yesterday. A plane from Maylasian Airwways, which was flying from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur, was hit by a Russian/Ukrainian missile. Nobody survived the impact and as more details from the crash are becoming clear we know that already over 295 innocent people have lost their lives.

This shocking news reminds us of how fragile life is, but even more how utterly useless war always will be. Our hearts go out to all the victims and everyone involved or connected to this tragedy.

Welcome to the SEKOIA Website!

Thanks to Mikel from Kollekt.FM we finally have a fully functional home on the internet. We can’t wait to share it with you and hear your comments. To help you get started, we have summed up the features in this post. Enjoy your time here and please do stick around.

Homepage
Our homepage is pretty simple and it will help you stay updated on all our endeavors. We have worked tirelessly to add all of our music to the website and you will find everything on this page. At the top of the page you can find all of our most recent features and if you look there now, you will find the most recent interviews we did for DJ Mag NL, to accompany our podcast series.

On the top right, there’s a podcast-player. The most recent SEKOIA-podcast will automatically be loaded into that space.

In the frame below, we have a very neat Youtube player, powered by Kollekt.FM. Every track, video or podcast we post wil automatically be loaded into that player, so you can keep listening to our tunes, while reading up on our interviews or just checking your Facebook, Twitter or whatever you might be doing at that moment.

Music
Not looking for our opinion, but only interested in the music? Kollekt.FM has provided us with a player that will keep on playing continuously on this page. Tune in, turn on, drop out.

Features
All of our articles and written work can be found here. It all dates back to when we started writing for DJ Mag NL and we are looking to engage more with artists, labels and clubs from around the globe. If you’re interesting in writing for us, we are always looking to expand our staff. Just drop us a line on Facebook or at info@sekoia.nl and we’ll get back to you.

Events
Yes, we organise our own parties. On this page you will find info on every party coming up, but also dates and artwork from the past. Unfortunately, this might initially only be interesting to our Dutch followers, but we are looking for world domination so keep checking back to this page and maybe someday there will be a SEKOIA party in your neighbourhood.

We’re really excited finally being able to share this with you. If you happen to stumble across a bug or anything else that’s not entirely functional yet, please let us know through info@sekoia.nl.

SEKOIA’s goal is to spread knowledge about all the amazing music that is out there. Our signature deep sound has found it’s way into the lives of many, and we’re so grateful for being able to help listeners find new awesome tunes on one side, while helping artists getting their music out there and listened to by a larger audience on the other. This middleman position fits like a glove, with our Facebook, Youtube channels providing new music on a daily basis.

Our monthly podcast series on Soundcloud has been growing steadily, both in number and in the amount of listeners tuning in every month. This hasn’t gone unnoticed by some big names in the industry, and when we were asked if we would like to take our podcast to the next level, of course we couldn’t say no…

So here goes: on the 27th of May, the first Dutch edition of DJMag will be released, and our SEKOIA Podcast series will be featured in it, including a full page interview with the contributing artist! There will be 8 editions of the magazine per year, and SEKOIA will be contributing an interview linked to our podcast series to each one. How cool!

We’re proud and happy to be enlisted as musical gatekeeper for such an icon of the dance music industry, and hope to provide DJMag readers with a taste of our proper deep style of music.

The podcast will, of course, still be hosted on our Soundcloud and will still be released on a monthly basis, so no change over there. There’s just some extra depth to each podcast as they will include their own interview, which is available on print and online!

First release of the magazine (and podcast) is on the 27th of May, and we have the German boys from Dürerstuben doing a vinyl only, warehouse inspired podcast for us under their DJ moniker Stürerbuben. We can’t wait to share it with you!
